Where it came from
Rest in Peace was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' set featuring the Assassin's Creed franchise. The card functions as a functional reprint of a classic Magic card, re-skinned to fit the lore of the game's setting. It depicts the burial rites and historical narrative of the Assassin brotherhood, grounding the mechanics in the established aesthetic of the video game series.
The card’s illustration was crafted to mirror the high-contrast, cinematic style favored by Ubisoft’s art direction for the Assassin's Creed series. By integrating the card game's mechanical identity with the franchise's iconography, the design team aimed to bridge the gap between traditional tabletop strategy and the immersive world of historical simulation. Upon release, the set was noted for its focus on character-driven artwork and its successful adaptation of established game mechanics into the Assassin's Creed universe.
