Where it came from
Rest in Peace was originally released in the 2012 Return to Ravnica expansion, designed as a powerful graveyard-hate enchantment intended to disrupt strategies reliant on recursion. It quickly became a staple in eternal formats like Modern, Legacy, and Commander due to its efficient mana cost and clean, symmetrical exile effect.
The Signature Spellbook: Gideon version, released in 2019, represents a curated thematic tribute to the planeswalker Gideon Jura. This specific printing features new, stylized artwork by Greg Opalacz that focuses on the solemn, protective nature of the card, aligning with the narrative of Gideon’s sacrifice and devotion to the Boros Legion and the Gatewatch.
