Where it came from
Rest in Peace originated in The Big Score expansion for the collectible card game universe, released during a period when the game was expanding its mechanical complexity. The card was designed to serve as a disruption tool, meant to counteract graveyard-focused strategies that had come to dominate the competitive landscape at the time. Its introduction forced players to reconsider deck construction, shifting the meta-game toward a more board-centric approach.
The visual design of the card emphasizes a solemn, ethereal atmosphere, intended to communicate its function as a finality-inducing effect. The illustrator utilized a muted color palette and high-contrast imagery to evoke a sense of permanent closure. Upon its release, it was widely praised by the community for its efficiency and clear-cut utility, quickly becoming a staple in sideboards for tournaments where graveyard interaction was prevalent.
