Where it came from
The Bird token with collector number 2 was released in 2020 as part of the Commander 2020 product line, specifically bundled with the 'Arcane Maelstrom' preconstructed deck. These tokens were created to support the mechanics of specific cards in the set, such as 'The Locust God' or various spells that create creature tokens, serving as a physical representation of game states during play.
The artwork for this token was created by Greg Staples, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering card game. Staples is known for his atmospheric and painterly style, and for this specific design, he aimed to capture the avian aesthetic consistent with the creature type's identity in the game, focusing on clarity and utility to ensure players could easily identify the creature's stats and abilities on the battlefield.
