Where it came from
Valorous Stance was originally introduced in the Fate Reforged set of Magic: The Gathering in 2015, designed as a flexible common-rarity spell. Its mechanical identity centers on the 'modal' design philosophy, offering players a choice between protecting a creature they control or destroying a problematic opposing creature with high toughness. This dual functionality made it a staple in limited environments and an efficient sideboard option in various constructed formats, valued for its tactical utility during key combat steps.
The Double Masters printing, featuring collector number 38, arrived as part of a premium reprint set released in 2020. This version utilizes updated frame aesthetics consistent with the set's high-end design language, intended to celebrate iconic and useful cards from the game's history. The artwork, originally by Mathias Kollros, maintains the thematic depiction of a heroic figure standing firm in the face of conflict, a visual motif that reinforced the card's role as a reliable defensive and offensive tool for players seeking versatility.
