Where it came from
Valorous Stance was first printed in the Fate Reforged expansion in 2015, later appearing in the Forgotten Realms Commander set with the collector number 76. The card was designed as a modal spell, offering players the tactical choice between protecting a creature with indestructible or removing a larger threat from the battlefield. This flexibility was intended to give white decks a versatile tool for both offensive and defensive play, reflecting the color's thematic focus on justice and fortification.
The artwork for this specific printing, like many in the Dungeons & Dragons-themed commander sets, draws heavily from the high-fantasy aesthetic of the Forgotten Realms. Illustrators tasked with these designs aim to bridge the gap between Magic: The Gathering's mechanical requirements and the storied visual language of D&D. The card was well-received by players for its efficiency in Commander formats, where modal spells are prized for their ability to remain useful in varied board states.
