Where it came from
The Cat token was released in 2018 as part of the Commander 2018 expansion set for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were produced to function as gameplay aids for cards that generate creature tokens during a match, specifically designed to visually represent the feline creatures created by effects like those found in the Nature's Vengeance or Adaptive Enchantment decks.
The illustration for this token was created by artist Nils Hamm. Known for his atmospheric and organic painting style, Hamm captured the likeness of a nimble, stylized cat meant to fit the high-fantasy aesthetic of the game. Upon its release, the token was well-received by players for its distinct artistic flair, becoming a staple component for enthusiasts who prefer using official Wizards of the Coast accessories during tournament and casual play.
