Cat

The Cat token, numbered 3 in the Starter Commander Deck series, was produced by Wizards of the Coast to support the mechanics introduced in their preconstructed Commander decks. These tokens serve as physical representations of board-state effects, specifically generated by cards that create creature tokens during gameplay. Their introduction reflects the growing popularity of the Commander format and the publisher's commitment to providing players with standardized, identifiable markers to streamline the experience of tabletop Magic: The Gathering.

The design of these tokens follows the modern aesthetic established by the Magic art department for secondary components, prioritizing clarity and thematic consistency. While these tokens are often credited to the broader collaborative efforts of the Wizards of the Coast creative team and various freelance illustrators commissioned for the sets, they are designed to be functional visual shorthand. They were received primarily as essential utilities for deck-building, valued by the community for their convenience in organized play and casual Commander environments.
