Where it came from
The Cat token, numbered 15 in the Commander Legends set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020, was created to support the mechanics introduced in that specific expansion. Designed for use in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, these tokens represent the temporary creatures generated by various spells and abilities within the Commander format. Because the set was specifically engineered to be drafted, the tokens were produced in physical form to assist players in tracking their board state during intense gameplay sessions.
The visual identity of this token was crafted to reflect the thematic aesthetic of the set, maintaining stylistic continuity with the core cards while distinguishing itself as a game aid. The artwork adheres to the established fantasy art direction of the franchise, focusing on functional clarity so that players can immediately identify the creature type and power/toughness stats at a glance. It remains a standard piece of ephemera for players who utilize white-aligned decks that feature feline-based summon effects.
