Cat

The Cat token, identified by collector number 3, was released as part of the Magic 2014 (M14) Core Set in July 2013. In Magic: The Gathering, tokens are auxiliary cards used to represent creatures created by the effects of other spells or permanents, such as the sorcery 'Call of the Conclave' or the enchantment 'Brave the Elements.' These cards were designed to provide a clear, standardized visual reference for players during gameplay, ensuring that board states remained legible as players generated temporary forces on the battlefield.

The artwork for this particular token was created by Greg Staples, a long-time contributor to the game whose style frequently leans into high-fantasy realism. His design depicts a snarling, battle-ready feline, characterized by its fierce posture and detailed fur rendering, which aligns with the aesthetic standards of the 2013 core set. While functional in nature, the token was well-received for its evocative art, becoming a standard inclusion in many green-white aggressive decks of that era.
