Saproling

The Saproling token numbered 16 from the 2016 Commander set was produced by Wizards of the Coast to support the mechanics introduced in the preconstructed decks of that year. Saproling tokens have been a recurring element in Magic: The Gathering for decades, representing fungal creatures often generated by cards focused on G/B/W themes. These tokens are designed to provide physical utility for players managing board states where multiple creatures are summoned simultaneously through card effects.

The art for this specific token adheres to the established visual language of the game, emphasizing the organic, earthy aesthetic associated with the Saproling creature type. Illustrators for these tokens are typically tasked with creating a clear, recognizable representation that distinguishes them from other permanent types during gameplay. The 2016 iteration was well-received by players for its clarity and thematic alignment with the 'Open Hostility' and 'Entropic Uprising' decks included in that year’s release.
