What it does
Whenever an opponent draws a card, that player may pay 2 generic mana. If the player doesn't, you create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "tap, Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")
"They laughed with glee as the pixie spun gold from straw. They smiled and shrugged when their curtains and clothes were next on the wheel. Then he grabbed their hair."— *The Goose Mother and Other Tales*

Where it came from
Smothering Tithe was originally introduced in the 2019 Magic: The Gathering set Ravnica Allegiance, where it quickly became a staple in Commander formats due to its powerful ability to generate treasure tokens. The version from the Wilds of Eldraine: Enchanting Tales bonus sheet reimagines the card within the set's storybook-inspired aesthetic, featuring unique artwork that departs from the original's guild-themed visuals to emphasize the enchantment's taxing, regal nature.
The Enchanting Tales series was designed to showcase iconic enchantments from throughout the game's history, giving them a unified, fairy-tale artistic treatment. The illustration for this particular printing focuses on the whimsical and sometimes dark motifs of Eldraine, aiming to blend the card's mechanical utility with the immersive, folk-horror-inflected visual identity of the plane. It remains a widely collected piece among players who prioritize aesthetic consistency in their decks.
