The Elephant token was released in 2010 as part of the Worldwake expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were produced to represent the creature spells generated by specific cards in the set, such as the sorcery 'Bestial Menace.' In the context of the game's mechanics, tokens serve as ephemeral markers for board states, and their inclusion in booster packs became standard practice to assist players in maintaining clear game states during matches.

The artwork was commissioned from Lars Grant-West, a veteran illustrator known for his realistic and anatomically grounded approach to creature design.
