Where it came from
The Elephant token, designated as collector number 12 in the The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander token set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in November 2023. These tokens were produced to support mechanics found within the associated Commander decks, specifically providing physical representation for creatures created by various card effects. As part of the Ixalan plane's return, the aesthetic reflects the set's high-fantasy, Mesoamerican-inspired jungle theme.
The artwork for this token adheres to the visual language established for the Commander expansion, balancing functional clarity with the illustrative style prevalent in modern Magic: The Gathering. While tokens are secondary to the primary deck cards, they are carefully commissioned to maintain the immersion of the expansion's setting. The reception of these tokens has been standard for the game, appreciated primarily by players who utilize effects that generate 3/3 Elephant creature tokens during gameplay.
