Where it came from
The Elephant token, numbered 20 in the Starter Commander Deck series, was produced by Wizards of the Coast to facilitate gameplay within the Commander format. These tokens serve as physical representations of creatures created by various spells and abilities, such as the popular card Advent of the Wurm or specific green-aligned Commander deck mechanics. The design prioritizes functional clarity, featuring clean artwork that differentiates the creature type and power/toughness stats at a glance for players during complex board states.
The illustration style follows the standardized visual language established for Magic: The Gathering tokens in the early 2020s, focusing on thematic consistency with the associated set releases. By utilizing digital illustration techniques, the artists aimed to create an iconic, recognizable silhouette for the Elephant. Reception within the player community has been positive, as these tokens are valued for their accessibility and durability, serving as essential utility pieces for participants in the Commander format.
