Where it came from
Birds of Paradise is one of the most iconic cards in the history of Magic: The Gathering, originally debuting in the Alpha set of 1993. The creature represents a classic 'mana dork,' a low-cost green creature capable of generating any color of mana, which has made it a cornerstone of deck-building strategies for decades. Its inclusion in the Dominaria Remastered set, released in 2023, serves as a curated retrospective of the game's long-standing history, specifically highlighting cards from the plane of Dominaria that shaped the competitive landscape.
The artwork for this specific iteration (collector number 151) features a classic aesthetic that pays homage to the creature's original depiction while benefiting from modern card printing technology. By reprinting this card within a set dedicated to nostalgia and mechanical history, Wizards of the Coast intended to provide players with a high-quality, visually distinct version of a card that remains as mechanically relevant today as it was thirty years ago. The card has been consistently received as a gold standard for efficient ramp, valued by players both for its historical significance and its utility in various formats.
