Birds of Paradise

Birds of Paradise is one of the most iconic cards in the history of Magic: The Gathering, originally appearing in the Alpha set of 1993. This specific iteration hails from the Marvel Super Heroes Commander deck, a 2025 release resulting from a crossover collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Marvel. The card features unique thematic art designed to integrate the classic fantasy creature into the Marvel aesthetic, adhering to the game's tradition of reprinting essential utility cards within new, themed expansion sets.

The card was illustrated to capture the essence of the original 1993 Richard Garfield design, which provides players with mana flexibility early in the game. By reimagining the familiar avian subject through the lens of Marvel's visual style, the design team aimed to maintain the mechanical familiarity that established players expect while offering a fresh aesthetic for collectors of both franchises. The reception among the player base has been largely defined by its utility as a 'mana dork' and its role as a cross-brand collectible.
