Where it came from
Birds of Paradise is one of the most iconic cards in the history of Magic: The Gathering, originally appearing in the Alpha set of 1993. The card was designed as a fundamental mana-fixing creature, providing players with flexibility by tapping for any color of mana. This specific version was featured in the 2016 expansion Conspiracy: Take the Crown, which was designed as a draft-focused multiplayer set that emphasized political gameplay and social strategy.
The artwork for this particular printing was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve. Her rendition of the creature maintains the classic aesthetic of the tropical, multi-colored bird while utilizing the updated, modern border and frame style characteristic of the mid-2010s releases. The card has long been a staple of the game for its efficiency, and this reprint was well-received by players seeking a visually polished version of a quintessential utility card for their Commander and Cube decks.
