Where it came from
Dark Ritual, originally printed in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, is one of the most iconic black cards in the game's history. It was designed to provide explosive mana acceleration, allowing players to perform powerful, high-cost plays early in a match. The card's design remains a quintessential example of black's philosophy of paying a resource cost for immediate, short-term power.
This specific iteration, Collector Number 2001, is part of a Secret Lair drop, a series of curated, limited-release sets featuring unique, thematic art treatments. The artwork for this version focuses on distinct, stylized aesthetics meant to appeal to collectors and players looking to customize their decks with visually striking, non-standard variants that differ from the traditional card art found in core expansions.
