Double-Faced Substitute Card

The Double-Faced Substitute Card, numbered 06 in the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt set, was produced by Wizards of the Coast as a functional utility tool for players. Because Magic: The Gathering cards with double-faced mechanics require players to hide the identity of the card while it is in a deck or library, these substitute cards were designed to be used in opaque sleeves. They allow players to mark which specific transform card is being represented, ensuring the integrity of gameplay without needing to rely on sleeves that are perfectly uniform in transparency.

The design of these cards follows the aesthetic established for the Innistrad plane, featuring a clean, minimalist layout that prioritizes readability and ease of use. While the art style is simplified compared to standard creature cards, it maintains the dark, gothic-horror visual language inherent to the set. These substitutes are generally well-regarded within the player community for their practical utility in tournament play, effectively replacing the previous practice of using makeshift slips of paper or checklists.
