Mountain

The Mountain card from the Secret Lair series, specifically collector number 106, was released as part of the specialized 'Secret Lair Drop' initiative launched by Wizards of the Coast in 2019. This direct-to-consumer platform was designed to offer players and collectors stylized, artist-driven versions of Magic: The Gathering cards that deviate from the standard aesthetic of the game. These drops are typically available only for a limited time, creating a distinct niche within the secondary market for players seeking personalized or thematic deck enhancements.

This particular printing features artwork intended to break away from traditional high-fantasy tropes, favoring unique illustrative techniques or specific artistic collaborations. By commissioning varied artists for these drops, Wizards of the Coast aimed to explore different visual identities for the game's fundamental resource cards. The reception among the player base has been largely positive, with collectors often valuing these cards as much for their aesthetic utility as for their relative scarcity compared to mass-produced set inclusions.
