Provenance

Where it came from

The Mountain card, numbered 283 from the 2024 set Outlaws of Thunder Junction, serves as a basic land card within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. This specific set was designed to explore a Western-themed plane, blending traditional high fantasy elements with the tropes and iconography of the American frontier to create a distinct, rugged visual identity for the game's expansion.

The artwork for this card was crafted by artist Wisnu Tan, who aimed to capture the stark, expansive beauty of the set's desert-like landscapes. By utilizing warm, earthy tones and emphasizing the scale of the environment against the horizon, the illustration seeks to evoke the feeling of solitary exploration central to the Western genre, a design choice that received praise from players for its atmospheric consistency across the set's broader cycle of basic lands.
