Provenance

Where it came from

The Mountain card from The Brothers' War Commander set was released in 2022 as part of a supplementary expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on the iconic conflict between Urza and Mishra, drawing heavily on the aesthetic of the original 1994 Antiquities expansion to evoke a sense of high-fantasy industrial warfare and ancient history.

The artwork for this specific land card serves to ground the player in the war-torn landscape of Dominaria. It reflects the set's thematic commitment to brutalist machinery and scorched environments, aiming to provide a visual narrative of a world reshaped by mechanical devastation. The design emphasizes a stark, rugged topography consistent with the core visual identity of Magic's basic lands while adhering to the darker, steampunk-influenced tone established by the set's art directors.
