Provenance

Where it came from

The Mountain card, numbered 275, was released as part of the 2024 Magic: The Gathering set Outlaws of Thunder Junction. This set marked a departure for the game, exploring a fantasy-Western genre blend on a new plane called Thunder Junction, a frontier world defined by lawlessness and expansive desert landscapes.

The artwork for this specific basic land was created by artist Alayna Danner. Designed to evoke the rugged, jagged aesthetic of a frontier canyon, the illustration emphasizes the warm, sun-drenched palette common to the arid regions depicted in the set. Like other cards in the series, it was received as a stylistic effort to integrate traditional Western visual tropes into the established Magic multiverse.
