Mountain

The Mountain card from the Secret Lair Drop series, specifically collector number 674, was released as part of the 'Artist Series: Johannes Voss' drop in 2021. This limited-run collection was designed to highlight the unique visual style of artist Johannes Voss, who has been a prominent illustrator for Magic: The Gathering for over a decade. The artwork for this card features a ethereal, painterly aesthetic that leans into soft color palettes and fantastical lighting, departing from the more traditional, gritty landscape depictions typically found in the game's core sets.

The Secret Lair program was established by Wizards of the Coast to offer collectors curated, aesthetically distinct versions of existing cards that often showcase styles outside of the standard visual identity of the game. By commissioning specific artists for these drops, the company provided a platform for them to explore more personal interpretations of the game’s iconic land types. This specific Mountain was well-received by players and collectors for its cohesive, dreamy atmosphere and remains a notable example of the artistic variety introduced during the second year of the Secret Lair initiative.
