Provenance

Where it came from

This version of the Mountain card was released in 2014 as part of the Duel Decks: Speed vs. Cunning set. These decks were designed to highlight the strategic contrast between aggressive, fast-paced playstyles and more reactive, trap-oriented tactics, serving as a standalone entry point for players to experience a balanced head-to-head match right out of the box.

The card features artwork by Sam Burley, an illustrator known for his atmospheric landscapes within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. This particular illustration emphasizes the rugged, elemental beauty of a mountain range, utilizing a color palette and lighting style consistent with the cohesive aesthetic vision of the Duel Decks series, which aimed to offer players distinct, flavorful artistic variations for their basic land cards.
