Mountain

The 2001 World Championship Decks were a limited-run product released by Wizards of the Coast to commemorate the top decks from the Magic: The Gathering World Championships held in Toronto. Unlike standard booster pack cards, these were printed with gold-bordered backs and silver-foil signatures of the players on the face, making them explicitly ineligible for sanctioned tournament play. They served as a historical snapshot of the professional meta, allowing collectors and players to own and experience the exact configurations used by the game’s elite at the turn of the millennium.

This specific Mountain card originates from the deck designed by Tom van de Logt, the tournament winner who famously piloted a sophisticated red-black control strategy to victory. The card features the distinct artwork and layout of the Invasion block, which was noted for its thematic focus on a multi-planar war. While the art itself reflects the general aesthetic direction of the era, the inclusion of the player's name and the commemorative border distinguishes it as a collector's piece meant to honor a specific high-level competitive achievement.
