Where it came from
The Bird token with collector number 4 was released in 2023 as part of the Phyrexia: All Will Be One Commander set. These tokens are generated by specific cards within the set, such as Bladehold War-Whip or other effects that create creature tokens to facilitate gameplay strategies. Wizards of the Coast includes these standardized tokens in booster packs to provide players with physical markers for temporary game states during matches of Magic: The Gathering.
The aesthetic of this token reflects the grim, biomechanical aesthetic of the Phryexian plane. The design team focused on integrating the signature warped, metallic, and porcelain-like textures associated with the Phyrexian faction into a functional game piece. It was illustrated to maintain visual consistency with the broader set, ensuring that players could easily distinguish it from other tokens while staying immersed in the thematic tension of the Phyrexian invasion storyline.
