Where it came from
The Bird token with collector number 1 from the Zendikar Rising Commander set was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020. Tokens in the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem are auxiliary cards produced to represent game states, such as creatures summoned by spells or abilities, rather than being part of a player's starting deck. This specific token design features a flying creature intended to support mechanics within the Commander expansion associated with the return to the plane of Zendikar.
The artwork for this token adheres to the established aesthetic of the Zendikar setting, emphasizing the adventurous and untamed nature of the world. As is standard for the game's token production, the art is created to be easily recognizable on the tabletop during gameplay. These tokens were included as randomized inserts within Commander decks, serving as a functional utility for players who utilize cards that generate white Bird creature tokens with the flying keyword.
