Bird

The Bird token with collector number 1 from the Modern Horizons 2 set was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. As part of a premium, direct-to-Modern expansion designed to introduce powerful cards and reprints into the Modern format, tokens were included in set booster packs to represent the creatures generated by various spells within the set. This specific token features artwork by Lucas Graciano, who has illustrated numerous cards for the Magic: The Gathering franchise, characterized by his lush, painterly aesthetic and attention to creature anatomy.

The design of this Bird token serves as a functional companion to cards like 'Sanctifier en-Vec' or other cards from the set that create 1/1 white Bird creature tokens with flying. The artistic direction for Modern Horizons 2 aimed to evoke a sense of nostalgia while maintaining the high visual standards of contemporary digital illustration. The token was received as a standard utility piece, appreciated by players for its clear representation of board state and its consistent integration into the thematic art style of the broader Modern Horizons series.
