Provenance

Where it came from

The Plains card, numbered 872, originated from the 2024 Magic: The Gathering 'Secret Lair x Marvel Super Heroes' Commander deck. This release was part of a broader strategic collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Marvel, aimed at integrating iconic comic book aesthetics into the trading card game's standard gameplay mechanics while celebrating decades of Marvel lore through custom card art.

The design of this specific card features thematic elements meant to evoke the high-stakes world of Marvel superheroes, moving away from the traditional, serene landscapes typical of basic lands in the game. It was conceived by the creative team at Wizards of the Coast to function both as a functional game piece and as a collectible tribute, designed to appeal to both long-time Magic players and Marvel enthusiasts who appreciate the intersection of high-fantasy gaming and classic superhero iconography.
