Provenance

Where it came from

The Plains card, numbered 278, originates from the 1990 Marvel Universe Series 1 trading card set produced by Impel. This set was created to capture the immense popularity of Marvel Comics during the late 1980s and early 1990s, serving as one of the first comprehensive, high-quality collector card series featuring the publisher's iconic characters and locales.

The set utilized vibrant, full-color comic book artwork and character dossiers to engage fans and casual readers alike. While the series focused heavily on superheroes and villains, the inclusion of location cards like Plains provided context for the vast Marvel Multiverse. These cards were designed with a clean, standardized border aesthetic that became a hallmark of early 90s collectible card culture, receiving a warm reception from enthusiasts who sought a curated overview of the Marvel editorial landscape.
