Provenance

Where it came from

The Plains card, numbered 306, was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Warhammer 40,000' Commander set. This collaborative product was designed to bridge the strategic card-game mechanics of Magic with the grimdark, far-future aesthetic of Games Workshop's iconic tabletop wargame. The set features unique art direction intended to evoke the industrial, gothic atmosphere of the Imperium of Man, moving away from traditional high-fantasy tropes while maintaining the familiar utility of basic land cards.

This particular card is one of the foundational basic lands included in the preconstructed decks, intended to provide resources for players using the 'Forces of the Imperium' deck. The illustration was commissioned to reflect the desolate, fortified architectural style synonymous with the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Upon its release, it was well received by hobbyists for its success in translating the dense visual lore of the source material into the standard format of a Magic land card, effectively serving as an atmospheric staple for themed deck building.
