Where it came from
The Plains card, collector number 279, was released in the 2022 Magic: The Gathering set titled The Brothers' War. This set serves as a narrative return to one of the game's most foundational storylines, detailing the epic conflict between the artificer brothers Urza and Mishra. The set was designed to evoke a retro-futuristic aesthetic, blending the high-fantasy elements of the franchise with the industrial, mechanical themes of the early Magic lore.
The art for this specific land card was created by artist Alayna Danner. In keeping with the set's broader artistic direction, the piece emphasizes the sweeping, desolate beauty of the landscape during the time of the Brother's War, focusing on atmospheric world-building rather than specific character action. The card was well-received by the player base for its painterly style, which offers a soft, evocative counterpoint to the metal-heavy machinery showcased in other cards throughout the set.
