Where it came from
The Plains card, numbered 2754, was released as part of the Secret Lair Drop series, a specialty line of Magic: The Gathering cards introduced by Wizards of the Coast in 2019. These drops are designed to offer stylized, artist-driven interpretations of classic cards, often featuring unique aesthetic themes that diverge from standard expansion sets to cater to collectors and players interested in premium, collectible art pieces.
This particular card showcases the work of artist Rebecca Guay, whose distinctive, soft, and painterly illustration style has been a hallmark of the game since the late 1990s. Guay was commissioned for this series to provide a reimagined take on the foundational land card, aiming to evoke a sense of serene, ethereal natural beauty. Upon its release, the card was warmly received by the community for its nostalgia-inducing aesthetic and Guay’s return to the game’s visual identity.
