Where it came from
The 2020 MagicFest Plains, numbered 2 in the promotional series, was produced by Wizards of the Coast for distribution at MagicFest events scheduled throughout the 2020 calendar year. These cards were intended to serve as commemorative tokens for attendees, reflecting the game's ongoing efforts to provide unique, visually distinct versions of foundational cards to its competitive community.
The illustration was created by artist Alayna Danner, who is well-regarded for her ethereal and evocative landscape work within the Magic: The Gathering franchise. In this design, Danner utilized her signature painterly style to provide a serene, expansive interpretation of a white-mana landscape, moving away from the more traditional architectural depictions of basic Plains to focus on the atmospheric quality of the terrain. The card was received positively by collectors for its aesthetic departure from standard set-release art.
