Provenance

Where it came from

The Plains card, numbered 29, was released in late 2022 as part of The Brothers' War Commander deck set. These cards were designed to integrate with the main expansion, which centered on the iconic conflict between the brothers Urza and Mishra, two pivotal figures in the lore of Magic: The Gathering. By including basic lands within these specialized preconstructed decks, Wizards of the Coast provided players with thematic consistency that mirrored the art-deco and industrial aesthetic of the broader Brothers' War set.

The artistic direction for this particular card emphasizes the stark, high-contrast style that defined the set's portrayal of a world ravaged by massive mechanical warfare. As a basic land, its design was intended to be both functional for gameplay and atmospheric, grounding the player in the ruined landscapes of Dominaria. It was received as a standard but essential inclusion for fans of the game's evolving narrative and those looking to complete the specific card numbering for the Commander series.
