Where it came from
Reliquary Tower first appeared in the 2008 set Eventide and has since become a staple utility land in Magic: The Gathering. This specific printing comes from the 2022 Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate expansion, which drew heavy inspiration from the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms setting. The card's core function—allowing a player to have no maximum hand size—addresses the common mechanical issue of needing to discard cards after drawing large quantities, making it a highly sought-after inclusion for many deck archetypes.
The artwork for this particular iteration reflects the high-fantasy aesthetic of Baldur's Gate, emphasizing the tower as a repository of arcane knowledge. The design team at Wizards of the Coast utilized the Commander Legends set to bridge the gap between tabletop roleplaying and card game mechanics, ensuring that iconic cards like Reliquary Tower retained their utility while receiving thematic updates. It remains widely recognized among players for its simple, yet impactful, contribution to long-form multiplayer gameplay.
