Where it came from
Reliquary Tower was originally introduced in the 2008 Magic: The Gathering expansion Shadowmoor as an uncommon land card. Designed to solve the mechanical constraint of the seven-card hand limit, it quickly became a staple in the Commander format, where players often draw large numbers of cards. The Secret Lair Drop version, numbered 695, reimagines this functional utility piece through a distinct artistic lens.
This specific iteration was released as part of a limited-run Secret Lair collection. Secret Lair drops are known for commissioning diverse illustrators to provide stylized, often borderless interpretations of classic cards, distancing the visual identity of the game from its traditional fantasy roots. This version of the Tower is celebrated by collectors for its unique aesthetic, which prioritizes thematic atmosphere over the more utilitarian illustrations found in standard printings.
