Where it came from
Reliquary Tower first appeared in the Conflux expansion of 2009, designed to provide a mechanical solution to the problem of discarding cards when a player holds more than the standard seven-card maximum. Its inclusion in the Commander Masters set, specifically featuring the collector number 425, highlights its status as a staple utility land within the Commander format. The design intent was to reward players for drawing large quantities of cards, turning a traditional disadvantage into a strategic resource.
The artwork for this specific version maintains the iconic imagery of a towering, mystical archive, emphasizing the theme of infinite knowledge and storage. It was received as a highly functional inclusion in Commander Masters, catering to the needs of deck builders looking to optimize their land bases. The design team focused on maintaining the card's original mechanical identity while integrating it into the thematic and visual aesthetic of the Masters-level reprint cycle.
