Where it came from
Reliquary Tower is a utility land card that first debuted in the 2008 set Eventide. Its design solves a specific mechanical friction within Magic: The Gathering by removing the maximum hand size limit for its controller, an effect that has made it a staple in Commander formats where drawing large numbers of cards is a primary strategic goal. The card has been reprinted across numerous products, including the Modern Horizons 3 Commander series, to ensure accessibility for players building diverse deck archetypes.
The art for this specific printing, numbered 368 in the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set, reflects the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the game's broader art direction. Illustrators for the card across its various iterations have emphasized a monolithic, arcane structure that serves as a repository for knowledge and spells. It is widely regarded by the player base as a fundamental inclusion for deckbuilding due to its low opportunity cost and high utility in games that run for many turns.
