Where it came from
Reliquary Tower originated as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Doctor Who' Commander set, released in 2023. This card, carrying collector number 887, was designed to integrate the game's mechanics with the thematic essence of the long-running British science fiction series. The card functions as a staple land in the Commander format, allowing players to hold an unlimited hand size, which fits the narrative conceit of a TARDIS-like vessel or a repository of vast knowledge.
The artwork for this specific release draws heavily from the aesthetic of the Doctor's adventures, focusing on the architectural oddity of the tower as a place of immense storage. While the original Reliquary Tower has existed in Magic: The Gathering since the 2008 'Conflux' set, this Doctor Who iteration was crafted to provide fans of the show with a thematic visual anchor. It was well-received by players for its practical utility in high-draw deck archetypes and its stylistic alignment with the broader Doctor Who collaboration.
