Provenance

Where it came from

Reliquary Tower first appeared in the 2008 set Eventide, designed to provide utility to decks with large hand sizes by removing the standard seven-card limit. The card has since become a staple in the Commander format, leading to numerous reprintings as a promotional item. The Core Set 2019 promo version specifically features updated modern card templating and distinct foil treatment to distinguish it as a collectible variant for the game's core player base.

The artwork for this particular printing reflects the card's theme of an ancient, enchanted structure storing vast knowledge. While the specific illustration style evolved to fit the standardized aesthetic of the Core Set 2019, it retains the atmospheric, gothic-fantasy visual language established by Wizards of the Coast's internal art direction. It was received as a functional necessity for deck-building, valued by players for its balance of simplicity and game-altering effect.
