Where it came from
Reliquary Tower is a utility land card that first appeared in the 2008 set Conflux and has since become a staple in the Commander format due to its ability to remove the maximum hand size limit. This specific iteration hails from the Bloomburrow Commander release, which features the unique, whimsical aesthetic of the plane where anthropomorphic animals inhabit a fairytale forest. The design process for this version sought to translate the card's functional, academic nature into the cozy, storybook-inspired visual language established for the set.
The illustration for this printing reflects the theme of the Bloomburrow setting, reimagining the iconic tower as a structure integrated into the natural environment of the woodland creatures. By blending the card's longstanding mechanical identity with the artistic direction of the expansion, the creative team aimed to ensure the reprint felt cohesive within the set's broader world-building. It has been well-received by players for its balance of utility and the thematic charm characteristic of the Bloomburrow releases.
