Provenance

Where it came from

The Plains card, specifically numbered 255 within the Magic Origins set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2015, represents a foundational element of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Magic Origins was designed as the final core set of its kind, intended to serve as a narrative bridge that explored the backstories and 'spark' moments of five iconic Planeswalkers. The basic lands in this set were curated to reflect the thematic environments of these characters' home planes, reinforcing the set's focus on character-driven world-building.

This specific illustration was created by artist Adam Paquette, whose work is highly regarded for its atmospheric use of light and expansive landscape composition. Paquette was tasked with capturing the serene, sun-drenched aesthetic associated with the mana of the Plains. Upon release, the art was well-received by the player base for its painterly quality and ability to evoke a sense of quiet grandeur, helping to anchor the diverse and chaotic events of the Magic Origins storyline in a grounding, elemental visual language.
