Where it came from
Released in 1996 as part of the Asia Pacific Land Program, this Plains card was one of twenty-five unique basic land illustrations commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to celebrate the growing Magic: The Gathering community in the Asia-Pacific region. These cards were distributed primarily through tournament events and local game stores across specific Asian territories, making them early examples of limited-edition promotional releases that gained significant value among global collectors due to their restricted regional availability.
The artwork for this specific Plains card was created by artist Jung Park. The design reflects a serene, expansive landscape that leans into a distinct illustrative style, moving away from the more traditional Western fantasy aesthetics found in the core sets of the time. The landscape was intended to capture the natural beauty of the region, and the set as a whole was received with high acclaim for bringing cultural diversity to the game's foundational card types.
