Where it came from
The 2020 MagicFest Island, specifically collector number 3, was released as part of a series of promotional basic lands distributed at MagicFest events throughout 2020. These cards were designed to commemorate the global series of Magic: The Gathering tournaments and community gatherings, serving as highly sought-after souvenirs for attendees during a year when in-person organized play faced unprecedented global disruption.
The artwork for this specific Island was created by the acclaimed artist Johannes Voss. Known for his ethereal and painterly approach, Voss aimed to capture a serene, dreamlike atmosphere that diverges from the standard terrestrial depictions found in base sets. Upon release, the card was received warmly by the player base, who frequently praised the luminous color palette and the minimalist aesthetic that made it a standout inclusion in both competitive decks and personal collections.
