Provenance

Where it came from

The Plains card, numbered 252 from the Dragons of Tarkir set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2015. This set served as the conclusion to the Khans of Tarkir block, a storyline centered on the time-traveling planeswalker Sarkhan Vol and his attempts to reshape the history of his home plane. The Plains cards within this set were designed to reflect the shifting aesthetics of the plane's timeline, specifically focusing on the draconic influence that dominated this alternate reality.

The illustration for this card was created by artist Sam Burley. Known for his atmospheric landscapes in the Magic: The Gathering universe, Burley focused on capturing the rugged, mountainous terrain of the Tarkir landscape. The design emphasizes the stark, high-altitude plateaus typical of the region's aesthetic during the era of the dragonlords, aiming to ground players in the dramatic, elevated environment of the set's central conflict.
