Where it came from
The Plains card, numbered 252 from the 2014 Khans of Tarkir expansion for Magic: The Gathering, serves as a fundamental resource card within the set. Khans of Tarkir introduced players to the war-torn, clan-based world of Tarkir, a plane defined by its fierce culture and dragon-worshipping history. This specific basic land was crafted to immerse players in the aesthetic of the Abzan Houses, the clan represented by white, black, and green mana, emphasizing endurance, fortification, and ancestral veneration.
The visual design of this land captures the austere, harsh beauty of the Abzan territories. By utilizing the set's signature warm, arid color palette and architectural motifs reminiscent of fortress-like nomadic structures, the illustration reinforces the flavor of the plane. It was designed to provide functional utility while maintaining visual consistency with the broader narrative of the Khans of Tarkir block, a set widely praised by the community for its draft environment and thematic cohesion.
