Plains

The Arena League 2000 Plains card was released as part of a promotional cycle for the Wizards of the Coast organized play program known as the Arena League. These cards were distributed to participants of sanctioned events throughout the year 2000, serving as an incentive for players to engage with their local gaming communities. The set is notable for its distinct visual departure from the standard basic lands of the era, featuring full-art aesthetics that prioritize landscape immersion.

The art for this specific Plains card was created by artist Christopher Rush, a legendary figure in the early history of the game. Rush utilized a sweeping, painterly approach to capture a serene, open horizon, moving away from the more cluttered compositions often found in basic lands of the time. The card was well-received by the player base for its clean, minimalist frame and the prestige associated with participating in the Arena program, cementing its status as a sought-after aesthetic choice for tournament decks.
